Your Missionary Has Arrived!

Elder Rogers has officially arrived to the mission field in Lyon France today.  Mom had a chance to talk to him for a couple of minutes when he arrived at the mission home. He sounded very tired after a 24 hr flight but happy to finally be in France. He expressed how anxious he is for his little brother to get his mission papers mailed out. He misses everyone and sends his grattitude and love. He hopes to still get lots of mail. We will have his new address soon! Below is the E-mail our Dad recieved today with some pictures.

Dear Parents,

We are happy to let you know your son arrived safely in Lyon. He was met at the airport by President Roney.....  He will stay at the Hotel in Lyon tonight. Tomorrow he will meet his new companion who will be his Trainer. Then he will have training with President Roney and the Assistants to the President. After the short training he will leave with his companion to go to his first area.....

Please see today's photos in the attachments.

Thank you for sending us such a fine young man.

Bonjour Ma Famille!
I am so glad to have been given the opportunity to write you on a day that isn’t P-day! The MTC President gave us permission today to write home. So you won’t believe it, but I actually loved General Conference! This General Conference changed my life. First off, I’m serving a mission and Thomas S. Monson made church history today by announcing that young men now serve at the age of 18 and that young women can now serve at the age of 19. I immediately thought of my beloved brother and that Heavenly Father has inspired our living prophet for him so that he may begin now. Bradley needs to get out here ASAP and receive these magnificent blessings. If he goes now, that’s less time we will be apart. Please help him through the process to serve our Lord. I can personally testify of the wonderful blessings and of the love of the Lord. I was also happy to hear that the Lord is blessing people in Arizona with in a new temple in Tucson. I will now have three temples to attend when I get back, the Gilbert temple, Tucson temple, and the France temple. The Lord truly loves his children in Arizona.
I’d like to share my favorite talk from today’s General Conference. It was from the first session, the talk given by Russell M. Nelson, I love how he talked that every young man must serve. I loved how every other sentence he would say, “Call the missionaries, they can help you!” Not only are we serving our missions to baptize people, but we are here because our main goal is to “invite others to come unto Christ by receiving the restored gospel.” We are here to help everyone. That includes active members, less active members, and others who have never heard of the gospel! Like Russell M. Nelson also said, “Missionaries serve to help AND change the lives of others.” I’m glad that through the power of the priesthood and the power of the Holy Ghost, we can change many lives. Take up the challenge and serve as soon as possible! It not only changes investigators and members lives, but it changes yours being in the service of your God. I love General Conference and I hope you guys found something in one of the talks that impressed you and helped you, because someway or somehow, at least one talk is made specifically for each of us.

This week was a pretty good week. I finally got to meet a missionary, whose name is Elder Hapairai-Hanson, from my sister Cassy’s ward. He is a cool guy. We also got 25 new missionaries in my French Zone. There is this one sister in my zone, going to the same mission that arrived this last Wednesday. It’s pretty cool. On Friday, a missionary left out to the mission field. He is epileptic and the day he was supposed to leave got postponed because the Sunday before him and his district were going to leave, he had a seizure while they were singing their farewell song. So he had to stay to get tested and he got to stay with my district for three more weeks. One day I asked him, “Why do you think God would allow this to happen to you, why would he hold you back?” He responded with, “The Lord probably needed me to stay because those that I’m supposed to meet and teach aren’t ready yet.” Before he left, we threw him a little party with pumpkin cake and apple cider, and then at that moment I was able to answer my own precious question, even though I asked three weeks ago. Maybe those people he is supposed to teach aren’t ready but I personally think he was held back because we had a lot to learn from him. He knew what he was doing, and I learned so much from him. I am glad to have had the opportunity to be here with him.
Anyways, can you believe I have two weeks left?! So crazy, I’m so ready to go to France! I’ve been speaking with this Elder that’s native French, so I’m forced to speak French, but we are so much alike and we are from completely different backgrounds. He likes soccer, he likes MMA, and what’s even crazier, he has two sisters, a younger brother, and then a younger sister, in that exact same order as my family! It was so awesome to hear that. Well, that’s all I have to say. I love being here and I hope you guys are doing well. I miss you so much and I love you all so so so much! Au revoir!

Conference Weekend Oct-2012

Joseph F. Smith                       Tohmas S. Monson

"I know without a doubt that the church was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Thomas S. Monson is our living Prophet, he guides us and recieves revelation for our times."
-Elder Rogers

Ask the Missionaries. They can help you!
We follow the Lord Jesus Christ and teach of Him. We know that after His glorious triumph over death, the resurrected Lord appeared to His disciples on numerous occasions. He ate with them. He walked with them. Before His final Ascension, He commissioned them to “go … and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). The Apostles heeded that instruction. They also called upon others to help them fulfill the Lord’s command.
Today, under the direction of modern apostles and prophets, that same charge has been extended to missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These missionaries serve in more than 150 nations. As representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ, they strive to fulfill that divine command—renewed in our day by the Lord Himself—to take the fulness of the gospel abroad and bless the lives of people everywhere (see 1 Corinthians 2:2; 2 Nephi 25:26).
-Elder Rusell M. Nelson

Missionary Service
I am pleased to announce that effective immediately, all worthy and able young men who have graduated from high school or its equivalent, regardless of where they live, will have the option of being recommended for missionary service beginning at the age of 18, instead of age 19. …
As we have prayerfully pondered the age at which young men may begin their missionary service, we have also given consideration to the age at which a young woman might serve. Today I am pleased to announce that able, worthy young women who have the desire to serve may be recommended for missionary service beginning at age 19, instead of age 21.
We affirm that missionary work is a priesthood duty—and we encourage all young men who are worthy and who are physically able and mentally capable to respond to the call to serve. Many young women also serve, but they are not under the same mandate to serve as are the young men. We assure the young sisters of the Church, however, that they make a valuable contribution as missionaries, and we welcome their service.
-President Thomas S. Monson

Bonjour!

Hey Everyone! How is the whole world! I wouldn't know because I live behind bars 24/7! But it is a good place. This week was good! On Sunday I got to share my testimony during testimony meeting IN FRENCH!  It's funny because I wouldn't bare my testimony at home but I do here! In a completely different language! I love the language! I got up there, I bore it with conviction and with the best French I could speak. Afterwards, everyone asked me how I got a French accent and I was like, "WHAT!?! I have an accent?" I was so excited to hear that! I am making so much progress with my French and it's amazing! I love this work and I gain a testimony each day! I hope you guys are good! Take care!

Love,

Elder Rogers
